Our New Camping Life
Who would have thought that we (Troy and I) would buy a lot at a campground. I never thought we would do something like that. I've camped most of my life and typically it was in a tent. That was just until I started camping with friends and we would camp in their camper. That was a new life entirely. When we purchased our camper it was a mess, I was ready to walk away. But, we didn't.
May 2012, we became proud owners of a lot and camper at Indian Acres campground in thornburg, Virginia. We took a run down camper and turned it into something great. A place that I long to go to every weekend. It's a place that we can relax and our troubles don't follow us. When we purchased the lot Troy and I were having issues, mostly because of arguments when it came to my oldest son. The camper brought us closer together as a family. We all went to the camper and began working. Blake was on the camper roof painting it and the seams to help prevent the roof from leaking, Cameron helped to put a new floor and roof on the screened porch. While I cleaned the inside of the camper. We had to pull up carpet and get an old couch out of the camper. The place definitely smelled like old people. The lady who owned the camper previously was petrified of snakes (believe me I understand that issue) and she used moth balls until she cried.
Anyway, Troy and Donald tried for hours upon hours to get the old couch out of there. It was so heavy and yukky but they kept trying to get it out. It just wouldn't fit out of the door. Next thing I know I saw Troy holding a 5 pound hammer and Donald with a sawzall. I could only imagine what would come next. Wow, they were beating the couch apart, it was like the camper was built around the couch. While I was outside cleaning I saw them bringing out parts of the couch. It was in pieces and took about 2 hours to get done. It was crazy. Once that thing was out of there we could finally complete the floor. Finally!!!!
We worked so hard and we were able to start getting the floor down and the next week we would be staying there. I went to Family Dollar to get some paper towels adn saw the tiles that would work. They weren't the prettiest but it would work. So, I bought some and we started to put the tile down. It looked okay but it didn't "pop" for me. The next day, Troy and I went to Ollie's in Massaponex and I saw the tile that popped. We bought it and then pulled the tile up that I started to put down. We then placed the other tile down. It was really hard work because of the way the floor was built. It was a task but we did it in one day.
It was about time our camper was habital. However, we didn't know anyone at the campground. Hmmmm would we make friends? Our first real week at the camper was 4th of July weekend and that was so much fun. We watched fire works, cooked with friends, swam in the pools etc. We had a blast. Then it started getting late so we jumped on the golf cart and rode around and started making friends. Making friends at the acres has really been an incredible experience. Everyone at first treated me like they knew me by hugging me and telling me they couldn't wait until we were approved. It was really a wonderful experience.
The first friends we made were Richard and Charlotte, Troy met them when he took Blake to the lake to swim. They were so helpful and so much fun. They helped us meet others. We rode around that night until 4am and didn't feel like it. What fun, listening to music, dancing and drinking. I could finally cut loose. Good times.
More to come......
